Last September, Apple made new operating systems available for all its devices. One of them was iOS 18.0 for iPhones, which was released on September 16. The company has banned a return to iOS 18.0.0 from iOS 18.0.1, which it released to fix the issues.
Apple cuts signature support for iOS 18.0
Apple released iOS 18.0 for users with iPhone SE 2 and newer with features such as a revamped Safari, new Control Center, Game Mode and more. But the operating system was released with problems. The company quickly started preparing iOS 18.0.1 to fix the problems and released iOS 18.0.1 in about two weeks after the release of iOS 18.0.
Since iOS 18.0.1 is released as an interim fix update, it fixes existing bugs rather than bringing a new feature. The bugs fixed with iOS 18.0.1 are as follows:
- Fixed temporary freezing and unresponsiveness of the touchscreen on the new iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro series.
- Fixed the camera freezing issue of videos shot in 4K mode with the macro camera camera when HDR feature is turned off on iPhone 16 Pro series models.
- Fixed a bug that caused Apple Watch dials shared via iMessage to crash on the Messages app.
- Fixed a software issue with memory allocation.
Apple’s ban on returning to iOS 18.0 means that even if the user has an iOS 18.0 file for their iPhone model, the iPhone will not accept the version. However, iOS 17.7 continues to be signed for iPhone 15 series and previous users. It means that users who are not satisfied with iOS 18 can go back to iOS 17.7.
